PINEHURST, N.C.—Gay Bethea, laboratory supervisor at Moore Regional Hospital, was recently presented the Patriot Award, an award created by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense office, to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding support and cooperation to their employees that have answered their nation’s call to duty.
Bethea was nominated for the award by Rhiannon Spencer, an employee in the Moore Regional laboratory who also serves in the Army Reserve, for the support she provides Spencer as she answers the call to serve. The award also recognizes the corporate culture at FirstHealth that has allowed Spencer and many other members of the Guard and Reserve to continue to serve in the military.
“This is the best place I’ve ever worked, and I’ve never had a manager as supportive as Gay,” said Spencer. “No matter how short the notice or how long the orders, Gay provides me understanding and support that allows me to dedicate my full attention to my military duty. She is an example of great leadership."
