Pinehurst, N.C. -- Cardiologist Sean Regner, M.D., has joined the FirstHealth team. Dr. Regner started seeing patients at FirstHealth Cardiology in Pinehurst in June.
Dr. Regner completed his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Washington College before earning his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at West Virginia University. His interest in cardiology was initially sparked by the similarities it held with automotive engines.
“My interest in cardiology was originally driven by a fascination with engines,” Dr. Regner said.
Growing up, he had an early understanding of the basic mechanics of an engine through working in mechanic shops. During his medical training, he said he decided on cardiology since his prior understanding of pump physics further increased his understanding of the heart. Originally from Bel Air, Maryland, outside of Baltimore, he has spent time in multiple states including West Virginia, Ohio, New York and New Jersey.
“The Pinehurst community not only attracted me but also my wife,” he said. “We own two horses, so we felt Southern Pines would be a fantastic area for us. When an opening was posted for a cardiologist in Pinehurst, it seemed like an ideal opportunity to join a group that was actively growing where I could also help expand the preventive cardiology focus.”
In his spare time, Dr. Regner enjoys spending time with his wife, their two horses and two dogs.
