PINEHURST, N.C. – The FirstHealth Primary Care team is expanding in Southern Pines as Michael Williamson, DNP, FNP-C joins Nicole Jackson, D.O.
Williamson is a Sandhills native and has years of experience serving patients at both FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital and a local primary care provider.
He earned his Doctor of Nursing practice from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in May 2022 after previously completing a Master of Science in nursing in 2017. Before working as a family nurse practitioner, Williamson worked in the coronary intensive care unit at Moore Regional Hospital. He said his return to FirstHealth feels like a homecoming.
“FirstHealth has a longstanding reputation for excellence in our community. I have lived in this community most of my life – I grew up here. My dream in becoming a nurse was to work at Moore Regional Hospital. I was blessed to see that dream come true,” Williamson said.
“My career as a nurse practitioner took me to other locations in nearby communities, but I am so excited to be coming back to FirstHealth. I feel a special connection to the people here. They are my family and friends.”
Williamson said he has known since a young age that he wanted to work in medicine.
“My grandmother was a registered nurse and worked in the same unit at Moore Regional Hospital that I eventually worked in as a nurse, many years later of course,” he said. “I love being a nurse practitioner because it allows me to integrate medical science with human compassion. I have found that nurses often have that special capability and capacity to care for the whole person.”
Outside of work, Williamson said he enjoys being outside, gardening and taking walks. He also enjoys piano, admiring classic cars and spending time with his family, which includes three dogs.

FirstHealth offers a variety of primary care practices to meet the health care needs of your family. FirstHealth practices are happy to accept new patients as well as physician referrals. Our family medicine providers can treat all ages—from babies to grandparents, while our internal medicine specialists focus on teen and adult patients. All practices include health promotion, disease prevention, health maintenance, counseling, patient education, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses.
