Fighting Back Against Cancer
An estimated 41% of men and women in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetimes. Thanks in part to the support of The Foundation, the people of our region have a comprehensive resource to provide the care they need to fight this dreaded disease. FirstHealth leads the battle against cancer in the mid-Carolinas with one of the highest-quality cancer programs in the state. We use the latest research, treatment, advanced technology, quality care and, most importantly, the dedication of our caring staff to fight all stages of cancer at our new Cancer Center, which opened in March 2023.
Your Support Makes a Difference
Last year, the Cancer CARE Fund aided more than 350 patients with 46 different types of cancer from 15 counties in North and South Carolina. The patients received the assistance necessary to manage their cancer diagnoses and overcome common barriers to timely and appropriate care. Your generosity can help cancer patients and their families deal with the many challenges of fighting and living with cancer. Here are just a few of the ways your donation can help:
-
$25 - Assists with medication co-payments and affords medications that are not covered by patients' insurance
-
$50 - Provides needed medical supplies, equipment and other services and support
-
$75 - Purchases wigs/prosthesis/mastectomy bras/scarves and nutritional supplements $100 - Subsidizes average patient transportation costs for treatments and related appointments
-
$150 - Contributes towards the funding of a program coordinator
CARE-Net Matches Volunteers with Patients
Dealing with a serious disease or major surgery can be one of the loneliest times of your life. Family and friends can help, but sometimes you need to talk with someone who has faced what you’re facing, and felt what you’re feeling. CARE-Net volunteers provide advocacy to patients and families through calls, letters and visits. They also help connect patients with necessary resources and, when needed, facilitate communication with medical providers. Many of these volunteers are survivors of cancer or other serious illnesses so they bring a special understanding to their role. Thanks to generous support from the community, CARE-Net services are available to patients and families at no charge.
