Mammography

A mammogram is an X-ray picture of the breast tissue that allows doctors to look for early signs of breast cancer. Regular mammograms are the best test doctors have to find cancer early, sometimes several years before it can be felt. Have a mammogram every year starting at age 40 if you are at average risk.  Speak with your provider/clinician concerning clinical breast exams.  FirstHealth offers mammography throughout its service area.

3D Mammography Available

Breast tomosynthesis, also called three-dimensional (3D) mammography and digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), is an advanced form of breast imaging, or mammography, that uses a low-dose X-ray system and computer reconstructions to create three-dimensional images of the breasts. Breast tomosynthesis aids in the early detection and diagnosis of breast disease and is currently available at Moore Regional Hospital, FirstHealth Lee Campus, Moore Regional Hospital - Richmond, Moore Regional Hospital - Hoke and Montgomery Memorial Hospital. Data suggests that breast tomosynthesis finds 41% more invasive cancers than conventional mammograms alone.
