The academy consists of an anatomy and physiology class (EMS 3163) and the paramedic class, including classroom, lab and clinical hours. It is completed through a hybrid format over one year through an agreement with a local community college.
The employee continues to work full-time while completing the course. Work schedules and classroom hours are adjusted to accommodate the students. All registration costs and book fees associated with the classes are paid by FirstHealth in exchange for one year of employment as a paramedic.
Students are also eligible for an education loan of up to $5,000 during the academy. The loan is forgiven in exchange for a period of employment as a paramedic.
